Gin Rummy by MeggieSoft Games
$24 - MeggieSoft Games

MeggieSoft Games Gin Rummy is a very comprehensive implementation of the popular card game including Hollywood and Oklahoma variations. Play against online opponents or against your computer. Gin Rummy has a rich user interface with many customizable graphic, sound (including MIDI music and speech output), rule and scoring options. Six different computer opponent skill levels are available for when you are unable to get online, or just want to practice privately.

Gin Rummy is a game of taking and melding cards with the object of being able to lay your cards down as rank sets (e.g. three Kings) or runs (e.g., 8, 9, 10 of Clubs) before your opponent. You may take either a new card from the stock, or the opponent's last discard, to start your turn. You end your turn by discarding a card. The first player to 100 points wins the game. The many rule and scoring options affect when you can knock (go out) and how many points are awarded. MeggieSoft Games Gin Rummy supports Undercuts, Gin Offs, Double Gins and all documented variations.

The user interface, common to all MeggieSoft Games, supports both point-and-click and drag-and-drop mouse operations. Features include: realistic animated card movement; right-click pop-up menus; a hint facility; a tutorial; automatic play; automatic save and restore of partly finished games; multiple-user scoreboards; a clean and uncluttered main window; status-bar shortcut buttons; and fully customizable main display font and wallpaper effects for the table and playing mat, and the card backs.

This is an arcade/action game.

Back to the Future 3
$0 - GameFabrique

Marty McFly and Doc Brown have traveled back through time to the year 1885 ? and they're soon deep in trouble when they face "Mad Dog" Tannen's gang and have to find a way to return to the present. This game takes four scenes from the Hollywood movie Back to the Future III and turns them into arcade sequences:

Buckboard Chase: Doc Brown goes horseback in an attempt to save Hill Valley's lovely school teacher Clara. This game of quick ducking, jumping and shooting alternates between a side-scrolling and a top-down perspective.

Shooting Gallery: The name says it all. A classic game of aim-and-shoot, spiced up by hidden extras and bonus targets.

Pie Throwing: Meet the Mad Dog gang. They have guns, and you have... cream pies. It's an isometric version of the shooting gallery, only with ammo. And the targets shoot back.

The Train: Basically a side-scrolling beat-em-up on train wagons with some ducking and jumping. Get rid of the mechanics and collect speed logs to push the engine to a magic 88 mph.

Movie Studio Boss
$4.99 - PlaceforGames

Can you handle Hollywood! You have just been appointed the head of a new Movie Studio and have been given 10 years to make it the most successful studio around. You are up against seven other computer controlled Studios all trying to be the best Studio in the world. You are judged in three ways - most turnover, most profit and most awards.

As the Studio Boss you have lots of decisions to make, including: controlling the budget, deciding what type of film you are going to make, hiring a scriptwriter, getting the best director, trying to get the screenplay right, negotiating with the stars, handling problems on set, getting the post-production right and that's all before you worry about the cinema release. You've got marketing costs, web publicity, test screenings, how many screens to show the film on, when to hit the International markets, when to sell it to TV, how long before you put it on DVD and much, much more.
