Guitar lessons for absolute beginners

How to Play the Guitar Vol1
$28.9 - Terre Mouvante Cie

How to Play the Guitar - Volume I, is a guitar tutorial that makes it easy for absolute beginners to learn to master the instrument. Developed by a professional guitar player and trainer, this multimedia tutorial takes you step-by-step through the fundamentals of playing blues, rock, folk, arpeggios, and even classical music on the electric or acoustic guitar.

The lessons are designed for guitar enthusiasts with no prior musical knowledge. All lessons are written in both tablature and standard musical notation. You'll learn how to move fingers of the left hand while playing simple, repetitive patterns with the right hand.

Recreating the atmosphere of a private guitar lesson, the program covers common mistakes encountered by most students, including difficulties in keeping rhythm, fingering, and musical interpretation. Each lesson is progressively more difficult, and builds on prior lessons.

Learn guitar tablature, chords and songs.

NSA Song Player
$29.95 - NSA Software LLC

The NSA Song Player is designed to help you learn and create songs for the guitar. You can import tablature and hear it as it is played to the Metronome speed you choose, or create your own songs and progressions. Now with alternate tuning, staff and a capo, you can enter virtually any song, see and hear it played, and find scales and arpeggios to play over it.

You can learn from the Song Player in several different ways. It can be an invaluable reference tool, with over 1200 chords and thousands of scales in standard tuning alone. As notes are displayed, you can choose several options for additional information, such as note names or relative positions. So as you play songs you will become more familiar with the fretboard and how songs are built.

You can use the Metronome to start your practice slowly, and then build up to speed as you become more comfortable with a song or piece of tablature. You can also navigate through songs easily to find the parts that are difficult for specific practice.

Once you are familiar with a song, you can test your skills by playing it in a different key (with the click of a button), or change the fret position to learn different variations of its chords.

The Song Player comes with a complete Guided Tour to get you started quickly. The tour walks you through all the steps of working with chords, scales, songs and tablature. It is completely interactive, so you can do everything as it is explained to you.

Guitar Music Note Flash Card Game

Fret Fun
$4.95 - Heron Creek Music

Fret Fun is the interactive guitar flash card game that helps you learn the note names for the guitar and get you on your way to reading music. It's very simple and fun to play! Each game presents a random selection of 20 notes, displayed one at a time, and you will be asked to identify where it lives on the fingerboard by selecting its name, string number and fret number. Three challenge levels, review of missed notes at end of every game. Here's how it works:

First select the challenge level to play:

Level 1 (Just Got a Guitar) covers the notes in what we call Zone 1 - all the notes on every string up to and including the 4th fret (and the open strings). As you know, some notes have two names, such as F# (also known as Gb); both 'spellings' are included making a total of 50 possible note names to master (48 in Level 2 and 47 in Level 3). Each game presents a random selection of 20 notes, displayed one at a time, and you will be asked to identify where it lives on the guitar by selecting its name, string number and fret number. If you entered the right answer, you can advance to the next selection by clicking 'Next'. If you're answer was incorrect, you have the option of entering another answer ('Try Again') or skipping to the next note ('Next'). You get points for correct answers (5 points for first try answers, 2.5 point for second try answers) and at the end of the game your score is expressed as a percentage (after any notes you missed are be presented for review).

Level 2 (Have Some Chops) covers the notes in what we call Zone 2 - all the notes on every string from the 5th fret to the 8th fret, all spellings.

Level 3 (Virtuoso) covers the notes in what we call Zone 3 - all the notes on every string from the 9th fret to the 12th fret, all spellings.

Free practice/study sheets for each level are available at www.Music4ClassicalGuitar.com (Look for "Notes on the Guitar" in the Technique section).

Good hunting and have fun!
