Advanced SmartCheck 3.3 uses S.M.A.R.T. technology to monitor all networked PC's hard drives internal S.M.A.R.T. attributes, predict drive failure and prevent data loss. It lets you know about a potential disk health problem before you lose data.
Personal SmartCheck 3.1 uses S.M.A.R.T. technology to monitor hard drives internal S.M.A.R.T. attributes, predict drive failure and prevent data loss. It lets you know about a potential disk health problem before you lose data.
Save you data before HDD failure destroys it. SIGuardian uses S.M.A.R.T technology to accurately predict the date when a hard-drive is no longer safe to use. This tool is also capable of monitoring HDD temperature and alerting you over the network.
LC Technology International introduces the first real-time application available for the Microsoft Windows 95/98/Me/NT/2000/XP environments that will predict up 70% of disk failures before they happen based on the S.M.A.R.T. data provided by the manu

O&O DriveLED
$19.95 - O&O Software GmbH
S.M.A.R.T. self tests for an immediate check of your hard disks
Immediately after installation O&O DriveLED provides you the ability to make an intensive analysis of all of your hard disks. Every hard disk that supports S.M.A.R.T. is able to run self tests. Using O&O DriveLED you can start a self test of your hard disk with only one mouse click. During the tests several parameters and functions are being consecutively checked. Among other things, the interface, the surface and the mechanics - actually every read head - are being checked. Afterwards the error log will be read and finally also the S.M.A.R.T. system itself will be tested.
At the end and if there were no failures found, the corresponding entry lights up in green color. If some failures occurred, O&O DriveLED will notify you. In this case it is recommended to backup your data.
Access monitoring on the desktop
Have you often asked yourself why your hard disk starts up even when you aren't writing anything to it? Until now, you could only check hard disk activity by looking at the little lamp (LED) on the front of your computer. But who wants to be constantly looking under the table whilst trying to work or play games? From now on, you don't have to crane your neck anymore to see if your hard disk is currently active. Now you can use O&O DriveLED.
O&O DriveLED takes the hard disk LED, which is built into your computer, and puts it right there on your monitor screen. And there's more - you can see information about activity on virtual drives, e.g. network drives, and you can easily tell the difference between disk reading and disk writing activity.

Active SMART
$24.95 - Ariolic Software, Ltd.
Active SMART is an industry leading S.M.A.R.T. diagnostic and failure prediction software for hard drives. It uses S.M.A.R.T. (Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology) to monitor the health status of Hard Disk Drives, monitors the drives temperature, prevents data loss and predicts possible drive fails, using special algorithms. Active SMART has several monitoring modes and is intended for both personal and extensive computer systems use. Various local and remote monitoring modes and alerting options are available. Active SMART allows every hard drive in the system to be monitored 24 hours a day for faults, overheating or other hazardous factors that may lead to a crash. In case of error detection, there is a range of alerting options available: local (pop up messages, sound) and remote (e-mail or network messenger). No special technical skills are required in order to use Active SMART.

DiskCheckup
$15 - PassMark Software
DiskCheckup measures the performance and 'health' of your S.M.A.R.T. (Self-Monitoring, Analysis, Reporting Technology) enabled hard disk drive. It compares current hard disk drive (HDD) attributes to the TEC (Threshold Exceed Condition) values determined by the manufacturer of the HDD. It can track changes to the attributes over time and make a extrapolated 'prediction' as to the failure date of the HDD. The program can be configured to notify you when a TEC value has been exceeded, by a variety of methods including email.
DiskCheckup can be configured to use command-line parameters so that it can be integrated as part of a larger automated testing process. Alternatively, those users wishing to incorporate DiskCheckup's functionality into their own applications should consider the SMART DLL SDK Library. Contact PassMark Software for more details.
DiskCheckup is free for personal use and $US 15.00 per license for commercial use.

HDD Thermometer
$0 - RSD Software
HDD Thermometer is a hard disk temperature monitoring tool. It has all the features needed to prevent overheating and possible data loss.
HDD Thermometer use S.M.A.R.T. technology to get access to the hard disk temperature. Most of modern hard disks provide self temperature value through S.M.A.R.T. So if at least one of your hard disks supports this feature than this program will be useful for you.
When designing HDD Thermometer, we aimed to create fast, small, and feature-rich software. We considered that we succeeded in this. The most part of its life program eats about 400 KB of memory, CPU usage is minimal too.
HDD Thermometer features:
* Monitor hard disks temperature changes;
* Ability to perform any of following actions when exceed Warning or Critical temperature:
a) Show Notification
b) Play Sound
c) Execute Application
d) Shutdown / Hibernate
* Show hard disks temperature indicators in SysTray;
* Log temperature changes;
* Ability to set individual settings for each hard disk.
* Multi-language user interface. (Currently available 25 languages).

HDDlife
$0 - BinarySense, Ltd.
Worried about hard drive failures? Get HDDLife - a real-time hard drive monitoring utility with alerts, malfunction protection and data loss prevention functions. This hard drive inspector is an advanced proactive hard drive failure detection system which controls all of your hard drive risks. HDDLife uses S.M.A.R.T. technology, and works both for single PCs and large computer networks.
S.M.A.R.T. technology was developed by hard drive manufacturers to accurately predict hard drive life span and prevent HDD malfunction. HDDLife displays S.M.A.R.T. attributes in real-time and alerts the system administrator if particular hard-drive attributes exceed threshold values and are at risk. The system administrator can then backup data and/or replace endangered hard drives.
HDDLife loads on Windows start, compares new attribute values with the previous values and consumes absolutely no memory. The program is extremely straightforward - no fundamental knowledge of PC or hard drive technology is needed whatsoever. Zero failures during the last four years for the 100000+ hard drives monitored! 100% FREE to download and try.

HDDlife Pro
$35 - BinarySense, Ltd.
HDDlife provides real-time monitoring of your hard drives. It immediately estimates the disk status and displays its health and temperature values. The tool smoothly works under Microsoft Windows Vista, supports USB hard disk monitoring and uses S.M.A.R.T. technology to make regular observations of disks health. It comes with data loss prevention, malfunction protection and power management features. HDDlife is an effective way to know about any potential failure of your hard drives to take measures in advance.
HDDlife is based upon S.M.A.R.T. technology and shows the information about all disk attributes in real time, including temperature. The advanced algorithms of HDDlife can notice the slightest change of the values, and, in case they exceed the threshold mark, the utility will immediately alert you about it. In the preventative mode, the program can run regular checkups to let you know about any difference in disk performance and consistency. Also you can send the HDD readwrite indicator to the system tray to keep this information in view all the time.
Another power feature of HDDlife allows monitoring the status of USB hard disks just like any other ordinary hard drive. The utility currently supports external hard drives from IO-Data and Western Digital Passport. You will certainly appreciate that HDDlife lets you manually set the power consumption of your hard drives. It can reduce heat emission, improving the temperature status and allowing you to prolong the lifespan of a notebook.
The support of Microsoft Window Vista means that HDDlife satisfies the demands set forth by Microsoft in "Works on Windows Vista" certificate.
