Virtual Serial Ports Driver (VSPD) is a Windows device driver. Using it you can create any number of virtual serial COM ports in your system which will be virtually connected to each other. For example, after installing VSPD, you will have Virtual Serial Port COM5 and Virtual Serial Port COM6 added to your system. These ports will behave like real common serial ports to other Windows applications. These ports will not interact with any hardware. The idea is: all data sent by other application to COM5 will arrive at COM6, and all data sent by other applications to COM6 will arrive at COM5. For example, you can create virtual pair COM5-COM6. In this case all data sent by other applications to COM5 will arrive at COM6, and all data sent to COM6 will arrive at COM5. This can be seen if you run two HyperTerminals (or any other Windows terminal programs) and connect one of them to COM5 and other one to COM6. If there is a task to provide interaction between communications application and your own program (e.g. serial device emulator), there is no common solution to accomplish it. It is considered that communications applications are intended to work only with hardware serial devices connected to physical serial ports.
Virtual Serial Port Control is an ActiveX control which makes it possible to create virtual serial ports directly from your program and fully control them. At the same time virtual ports look like real hardware serial ports for all Windows applications. And any communications application can work with them as if they were physical ports.
